Desk-top label roll (barcode) printers are best suited to environments where you will be printing less than 400 100mm x 150mm labels or 1,000 50mm x 40mm labels a day and the maximum label width will be around 100mm (4"). There are thermal direct printers (that print on thermally treated paper labels) and thermal transfer printers (that print on plain paper labels using a wax-resin ribbon, or on plastic labels using a resin ribbon).

Industrial and Commercial label roll (barcode) printers are best suited to environments where you will be printing more than 400 100mm x 150mm labels or 1,000 50mm x 40mm labels a day, or you need to print labels that are up to 150mm (6" wide) or as much as 200mm (8" wide). These printers are generally thermal transfer printers (that print on plain paper labels using a wax-resin ribbon, or on plastic labels using a resin ribbon), but they are also able to print on thermally treated paper labels without using a ribbon (an option that is ideal for limited-time-use labels such as shipping labels).

Barcode Label Design Software
Barcode (bar code) label design software enables the user to design label layouts and include text, graphics and barcodes. Some label formatting software can be interfaced with external databases or Excel speadsheets to facilitate merging variable database data with a pre-designed label layout. Labels can be designed for products, mail, shelves, shipping cartons, etc.
